Sign in with LuxID
What Sign in with LuxID is
Sign in with LuxID lets you sign in to third-party apps and services with your existing LuxID Account, so you do not have to create or remember a separate password for each one. To use it, you need a LuxID Account - if you do not have one, you can create one at login.luxid.lu (opens in a new tab).
Why use Sign in with LuxID
- Stronger security - There is no separate password for the app to be weak, reused, or stolen in a data breach. Your sign-in happens over an encrypted connection.
- Less to remember - Your device and LuxID handle signing you in, so you store fewer passwords across services.
- Fast and consistent - Sign in with a few clicks (or a glance or touch if you use a passkey), with the same flow everywhere.
- Private by default - LuxID never shares your password with the app, and shares only what you agree to. LuxID does not sell or monetise your data, and does not use it for advertising unless you give your explicit consent.
What happens when you sign in
When an app or service supports Sign in with LuxID, it shows a "Sign in with LuxID" button. When you select it:
- You are taken to the LuxID sign-in page.
- You sign in with your LuxID credentials (email and password, or a passkey).
- You review what the app is asking for, then agree to share it.
- You are taken back to the app, now signed in.
If you have used Sign in with LuxID with that app before, you may be signed in faster because your previous choice is remembered. If you did not already have an account with the app, one may be created for you automatically. LuxID never gets access to your account on the app.
What is shared
The app receives a pseudonymised identifier - a code that lets it recognise you each time you return, without revealing who you are. It also receives any details it asks for to work, which may include your name or email address.
The sign-in screen separates essential details, which the app needs to work, from optional ones. Optional details are shared only if you choose to include them, and LuxID always shows you the full list before anything is shared.
You can always refuse. If you decline an essential detail the app needs, it normally will not be able to sign you in, so you would not be able to use it. Declining an optional detail does not stop you from using the app.

Stay signed in: automatic sign-in and "Remember me"
When you return to an app you have used before, automatic sign-in skips the manual steps. Whether you are still signed in to LuxID depends on your session:
- By default, your LuxID session lasts as long as your browser session. When you close the browser, you sign in again next time.
- If you tick "Remember me" when you sign in, LuxID remembers your session even after you close the browser or restart your device, until it eventually expires or you sign out.
Only use "Remember me" on a device that is yours and that you trust. On a shared or public device, leave it unticked and sign out when you are done (see Sign in on a device that's not yours).
Automatic sign-in works only while you are signed in to LuxID and have already agreed to share your information with that app.
Review or remove a connection
You stay in control of every app connected to your LuxID Account. To review or remove one:
- Go to your LuxID Account (opens in a new tab) > Applications.
- Find the app or service you want to remove.
- Select Revoke access and confirm.
Removing a connection stops automatic sign-in, and the app can no longer access your LuxID Account data - which may make some of its features unavailable. It does not delete data the app already holds; to have that deleted, contact the app directly.
LuxID is working on a more detailed view of your connected apps. In a future update, you will be able to see exactly what each app receives and change those preferences - not only review and remove a connection.
Good to know
- If you delete your LuxID Account, all of its app connections are removed too. Deleting your account with an app does not affect your LuxID Account.
- Closing or deleting your account with an app does not automatically remove its connection in LuxID. Some apps remove it for you; if not, you can revoke it yourself under Applications.
- If you revoke your last connection to an app and later connect again, it may not recognise your old account, so you may need to set things up from scratch. This is intentional - once you fully disconnect, reconnecting starts a fresh connection rather than restoring the previous one.
- If you think an app misuses your data, contact LuxID support to report it.
