Getting started
How do I create a LuxID Account?
Visit the LuxID sign-up page and follow the on-screen instructions. You will need a valid email address, a strong password, and optionally, a valid phone number for securing your account. See Create a LuxID Account for step-by-step instructions.
Are there age requirements for a LuxID Account?
Yes. You must be at least 16 years old to create and manage your own LuxID Account. See Age requirements on LuxID Accounts.
Are there any costs associated with using LuxID?
No. Registration and use of LuxID are free for you as a user.
What languages does LuxID support?
LuxID is available in four languages: English, French, German, and Luxembourgish. You can change your language preference in LuxID Account (opens in a new tab) > Account.
Signing in and devices
Can I change my username or email address?
You can update the email address associated with your LuxID Account from LuxID Account (opens in a new tab) > Account. Your LuxID identifier is your primary email address - changing it will update how you sign in.
How can I sign in to a different account?
If you have more than one LuxID Account, you can sign out of the current account and sign in with a different one. LuxID does not (yet) support switching between multiple accounts simultaneously.
Do I need a new account if I get a new device?
No. Your LuxID Account is not tied to a specific device. Simply sign in on your new device using your existing email and password. If you use passkeys, you may need to register a new passkey for the new device.
Can I use LuxID on multiple devices?
Yes. LuxID works across smartphones, tablets, and computers. Sign in with your email and password (and your second factor, if enabled) on each device, and keep your credentials secure. If you use passkeys, you can register a passkey on each device. See Use passwords and passkeys across your devices.
Account security and recovery
How do I manage or secure my LuxID Account?
What is 2-Step Verification, and how do I set it up?
2-Step Verification adds an extra layer of security beyond your password. When enabled, you need both your password and a second factor (such as an authenticator app code, an SMS code, or a passkey) to sign in.
To enable 2-Step Verification on your LuxID Account:
- Sign in to your LuxID Account (opens in a new tab).
- Go to Security > 2-Step Verification.
- Choose your preferred method (authenticator app, SMS or voice call, or passkey).
- Follow the setup instructions.
See 2-Step Verification for detailed instructions.
How do I change or reset my password?
To change your password (if you know the current one):
- Sign in to your LuxID Account (opens in a new tab).
- Go to Security > Password.
- Enter your current password and your new password.
- Save the changes.
To reset your password (if you forgot it):
- Go to the password reset page (opens in a new tab), or click Forgot password? on the LuxID sign-in page.
- Enter the email address associated with your account.
- Follow the instructions sent to your email or phone.
See Change or reset your password for more details.
How can I recover my LuxID Account?
If you forgot your password or can't sign in, follow the steps in How to recover your LuxID Account.
I received a verification code I didn't ask for - is it a scam?
Usually not. Most often, someone mistyped their own phone number while signing up and the code reached you by mistake. Never share the code with anyone - it is useless to others and expires on its own, so you do not need to do anything. If you keep receiving codes you did not request, see Receiving messages from LuxID or contact LuxID support.
Multiple accounts
Can I have multiple LuxID Accounts?
Yes. You can have more than one LuxID Account if that works better for you - for example to keep a personal and a professional identity separate. Each account simply needs its own email address. You do not need to ask LuxID or contact support to do this.
Can I have multiple LuxID Accounts with the same email address?
No. Each LuxID Account needs its own unique email address, so you cannot create several LuxID Accounts that share one email.
This often comes up when someone manages services on behalf of other people - for example, helping an elderly relative or someone less comfortable with technology - because the services behind LuxID usually expect one account per person, which can mean more than one LuxID Account is needed.
If you need several accounts, create a separate one for each person, each with its own email address. To avoid having to check several mailboxes, you can use email aliases, if your email provider supports them. An alias adds a keyword after a + sign in the part before the @, and messages still arrive in your normal inbox. For example, if your address is yourname@gmail.com, you could register accounts with yourname+mum@gmail.com and yourname+club@gmail.com.
Providers known to support this include gmail.com, icloud.com, and outlook.com. Check your provider's help pages to confirm, as availability can change.
Can my team share one LuxID Account?
No - a LuxID Account is meant for one person. If several people share one account (and one phone for 2-Step Verification), everyone can be locked out the moment the person holding that phone is unavailable. Give each person their own LuxID Account. If your organisation needs to manage accounts and access centrally, that is what LuxID Pro, the enterprise federation service, is for.
Can I merge two or more LuxID Accounts?
No. LuxID does not support merging accounts. If you have multiple accounts, choose the one you want to keep and transfer any necessary settings manually.
Apps and services
Which applications can I use with LuxID?
LuxID works with a growing range of services from POST Luxembourg, RTL, CFL, and other LuxID Partners. Wherever you see a "Sign in with LuxID" button, you can use your LuxID Account to sign in.
An app keeps asking for my LuxID email and password and won't let me in. What's wrong?
This happens most often in mobile apps, and it usually points to how the app handles "Sign in with LuxID" rather than to your account. To find out which it is, sign in to LuxID directly: open account.luxid.lu (opens in a new tab) in a normal web browser and sign in there.
- If you can sign in directly, your LuxID Account is working. The problem is on the app's side - for example, the app closed the LuxID sign-in window or browser tab before the sign-in finished. Open the app again and let the LuxID page complete and return you to the app on its own, without closing it. If it still fails, contact the app or service's own support team, because the fix is in their application. LuxID support cannot troubleshoot another company's app.
- If you cannot sign in directly either, the issue is with your LuxID Account. See Can't sign in to your LuxID Account.

How do I control what data I share with apps?
