Verify your account

Why verification is required

LuxID requires you to verify your email address when you create an account, because your email address is your LuxID identifier. Adding a phone number is optional - but if you do add one, LuxID verifies it as well. Verification confirms that:

  • You own the email address you are using as your LuxID identifier
  • You have access to any phone number you choose to add to your account
  • Your account is being created by a real person - verifying your email is one of several checks LuxID uses to confirm this, alongside the anti-bot verification on the sign-up page

Verified contact information also ensures you can receive important security notifications.

Email verification

During account creation, LuxID sends a verification message to the email address you provided.

  1. Open your email inbox and look for a message from LuxID Notifications. Learn how to recognise legitimate LuxID messages.
  2. Copy the verification code from the message and enter it on the LuxID page.
  3. Once verified, your email address is confirmed and linked to your account. No other LuxID Account can be created with the same email address.

The verification code is valid for 72 hours. If it expires before you use it, you can request a new one from the resend activation page (opens in a new tab).

Phone verification

Adding a phone number is optional. If you choose to add one, LuxID sends an SMS verification code to it so it can be verified.

  1. Check your phone for an SMS from LuxID containing a numeric code. Learn how to recognise legitimate LuxID messages.
  2. Enter the code on the LuxID verification page.
  3. Once verified, your phone number is confirmed and linked to your account.

Unlike your email address, the same phone number can be used on multiple LuxID Accounts.

Can't receive SMS? As an alternative, you can choose to receive a voice call instead. LuxID calls your phone number and dictates the verification code to you.

Your verified phone number can be used for:

  • 2-Step Verification - Receiving SMS codes when you sign in
  • Partner services - With your consent, your phone number can be shared with LuxID Partner services
  • Country association - Your phone number's country code (for example, a Luxembourg number) may be used to show LuxID Partners that you have a connection to that country, if you consent to share it

Troubleshooting

I did not receive the verification email

  • Check your spam or junk mail folder, and make sure your mailbox is not full.
  • Make sure you entered your email address correctly during sign-up.
  • Wait a few minutes - email delivery can sometimes be delayed.
  • Request a new verification email from the resend activation page (opens in a new tab).

I did not receive the SMS code

  • Make sure your phone has network coverage and can receive SMS messages.
  • Check that you entered your phone number correctly, including the country code.
  • Check that your phone is not blocking the message. Some phones and SMS apps can filter or block texts from senders that are not in your contacts - look in your phone's spam, filtered, or blocked-messages settings.
  • Wait a few minutes - SMS delivery can be delayed in areas with poor signal or high network traffic.
  • Try a voice call instead - If the SMS does not arrive, switch to the voice call option. LuxID will call your phone and dictate the verification code.

Why SMS messages sometimes don't arrive: SMS is a common channel for fraud and abuse, and mobile carriers may block certain messages as a precaution. It is not uncommon for verification SMS messages to be filtered or delayed. If neither SMS nor voice call works, contact LuxID support so we can investigate where the message is being blocked.

My verification code has expired

  • Email verification codes are valid for 72 hours. If your code has expired, go to the resend activation page (opens in a new tab), enter your email address, and you will receive a new code.
  • SMS verification codes are valid for 15 minutes. If your code has expired, request a new one from the LuxID verification page or try the voice call option.
