What is a LuxID Account

Your digital identity for Luxembourg

A LuxID Account is a Luxembourgish digital identity. It gives you a single, secure way to sign in to a growing number of online services across Luxembourg, from media platforms to telecom services and beyond.

With one LuxID Account, you can sign in to any LuxID Partner service, such as applications from POST Luxembourg, RTL, CFL and other participating platforms. Instead of creating a separate username and password for each service, you use the same LuxID credentials everywhere.

LuxID is operated by POST Luxembourg and is designed with privacy and security at its core.

What you can do with a LuxID Account

  • Sign in to partner services - Use your LuxID Account to access any service that supports LuxID sign-in, without needing to create new credentials each time.
  • Manage your personal information - Keep your name, email address, phone number, and other details up to date in one central place.
  • Control your privacy - Choose exactly what personal information you share with each partner service. LuxID only shares data you explicitly consent to.
  • Verify your identity - Optionally link your LuxID Account with LuxTrust to prove your identity at a higher assurance level when services might require it. LuxID and LuxTrust are complementary - LuxTrust provides the identity proofing, while LuxID uses it for secure authentication.
  • Secure your account - Protect your account with a strong password, 2-Step Verification, and passkeys.

LuxID is not an email provider

Unlike some identity providers, LuxID does not give you an email address. You sign up and sign in using an email address you already have, such as one from your personal email provider or your workplace.

Your email address is how LuxID reaches you for important notifications, like password resets and security alerts. Make sure you use an email address you check regularly.

Looking for an email service? POST Telecom offers a secure email service hosted entirely in Luxembourg. Visit post.lu (opens in a new tab) for more information.

How LuxID differs from individual logins

Without LuxID, you would need to create and remember a separate account for every online service you use. That means more passwords to manage and more places where your personal data is stored.

With LuxID, you get:

  • One set of credentials - A single email and password - or a passkey - for all participating services.
  • Centralised security - Manage your password and 2-Step Verification in one place.
  • Privacy by design - You decide what each service can see. Your data is shared only with your consent and only what is needed.
  • Easier account recovery - If you lose access, you recover one account instead of many.

How LuxID differs from social logins

You may already be familiar with "Sign in with Google," "Sign in with Facebook," or "Sign in with Apple." LuxID works in a similar way - you use one account to sign in to many services - but with important differences:

  • Local and sovereign - LuxID is operated by POST Luxembourg and your data stays in Luxembourg, subject to Luxembourg and EU data protection laws. Social login providers are typically US-based companies governed by different privacy regulations.
  • Privacy-first - Social login providers may use your sign-in activity to build advertising profiles or share data across their ecosystem. LuxID does not serve ads and does not track your activity across partner services.
  • Consent-based sharing - With LuxID, you explicitly choose what personal information each partner service can access. Nothing is shared without your consent.
  • Identity verification - LuxID can be linked with LuxTrust to verify your real identity at a higher assurance level, something social logins do not offer.
  • No ecosystem lock-in - LuxID is not tied to a specific product ecosystem. You don't need to use POST Luxembourg services to benefit from LuxID.

Who can use LuxID

Anyone aged 16 or older can create and manage their own LuxID Account. See Age requirements on LuxID Accounts for details.
