Delete your LuxID Account
Under European Union law (including Luxembourg's data protection regulations), you have the right to permanently delete your LuxID Account at any time - sometimes called withdrawing from LuxID. This is your right to erasure ("right to be forgotten"). This page explains what happens and how to do it.
If your LuxID Account is provided by your organisation (LuxID Pro), it is deleted or deprovisioned by your organisation, not from your own settings. Contact your administrator. See Manage your LuxID Pro account.
What deleting your LuxID Account means
Deleting your LuxID Account is a permanent action. Before you proceed, understand what will happen:
- You will lose access to all LuxID Partner services where you use "Sign in with LuxID" (such as services from POST Luxembourg, RTL, CFL, and other participating platforms).
- Your personal data will be deleted - Your name, email address, phone number, date of birth, and other personal information stored in your LuxID Account will be permanently removed (apart from a strict legal minimum that may be retained for a limited period, described under "After deletion" below).
- Your consent records will be erased - Records of which partner services you authorised and what data you shared will be deleted.
- Your authentication history will be removed - Sign-in records and security activity logs will be deleted.
Before you delete your account
Take these steps before proceeding with deletion:
Review your connected services
Check which partner services use your LuxID Account for sign-in:
- Sign in to your LuxID Account (opens in a new tab).
- Go to Applications.
- Review the list of connected services. You may need to create separate accounts with those services before deleting LuxID.
Get a copy of your data
Request a copy of your personal data before deletion. See How to retrieve your data.
Update other services
If you use your LuxID email address for other online services (banking, subscriptions, etc.), make sure those services have an alternative way to contact you.
How to delete your account
- Sign in to your LuxID Account (opens in a new tab).
- Go to Account.
- Select Delete my account.
- Review the summary of what will be deleted.
- Confirm your identity (you may be asked to verify via 2-Step Verification).
- Confirm the deletion.
Once you confirm, your account is deleted immediately. This is permanent: there is no grace period, and signing in again will not bring it back because the account no longer exists.
After deletion
- Your account is gone - Deletion is immediate and permanent. It cannot be reversed - not even by LuxID support. See Recover a recently deleted LuxID Account.
- To use LuxID again - You will need to create a new account, which starts fresh and is not linked to the LuxID Partner services you used before.
- Legal retention - LuxID is legally required to keep a minimum amount of information for a limited period (for example, to meet legal-compliance or anti-fraud obligations). This is kept to the strict minimum, is not an active account, and is permanently deleted once the legal retention period ends.
Data held by partner services
Deleting your LuxID Account removes your data from LuxID. However, partner services you previously authorised may retain data they collected independently. Contact each partner service directly to request deletion of their copies.
If your account has been compromised
If you suspect unauthorised access, do not delete your account immediately. Instead:
- Reset your password at the password reset page (opens in a new tab).
- Sign in and review your security settings under LuxID Account (opens in a new tab) > Security.
- Enable 2-Step Verification if it is not already enabled.
- Revoke access for any partner services you do not recognise under Applications.
Deleting a compromised account prevents you from reviewing what was accessed. Secure it first, then decide whether to keep or delete it.
